Our Privacy Policy

DailyDiary, LLC is committed to protecting your privacy. You are important to us, and we will take special care to maintain your trust. In order to fully understand your rights, we encourage you to read this Privacy Statement and to consult our Terms of Service. Please direct questions regarding this statement via our contact form.

Why does DailyDiary collect my personal information?

DailyDiary gathers information from members and visitors in three ways: voluntary registration, browser cookies and usage logs.

When you register as a member of DailyDiary, we collect information which helps us identify you. The more information you provide, the better we can customize our services and your experience to suit your needs and preferences. At the initial registration screen we ask for an email address, Password, and Time Zone. We also ask for information that helps us personalize our service for you. Using this information we may provide you with personalized content like weather forecasts, horoscopes, etc. This optional information includes: Name and Birthday. We may also collect demographic information like Country, State, Sex, Occupation, and Salary so that we may provide baseline options for chart comparisons. This information is used only in the aggregate form to provide targeted, personalized advertising and services that are of interest to you. On occasion, we may also collect additional personal information if you choose to enter a contest or complete a survey form.

We use cookies to maintain active signin sessions and to store and track your preferences to provide you with a more personalized member experience. A cookie is data sent to your browser from a Web server and stored on your computer's hard drive. Most Internet sites use cookies. You can set your browser preferences to reject certain cookies. Disabling cookies may prevent you from using our service. DailyDiary requires a cookie to store an encrypted and signed random token when you sign in. Our cookies will never contain personal information. We may also use cookies to help us estimate our audience size, determine which areas of the DailyDiary website are the most popular, and serve targeted advertising.

Usage Logs

We may log technical data such as IP addresses, login times, etc., for the purposes of systems administration, or to report information in aggregate form to our advertisers (e.g., how many visitors logged in to our website). An IP address is a number that is assigned to your computer automatically when you use the Internet. When you visit a particular Web page in the DailyDiary website, our servers log your IP address. For security auditing, we may associate these IP adddresses with individual account information. For other purposes, we only use this data in aggregate form to monitor overall usage patterns and trends on the website and to facilitate support requests and site maintenance.

How is my personal information used?

Customized Look and Feel

DailyDiary gathers member information to provide you with an enhanced member experience. For instance, your personal information enables us to greet you when you return to our site and to provide you with your specified preferences (e.g., the website's look and feel and preferred categories), as well as services we think will be of interest to you. We review our members' preferences, demographics, traffic patterns, and other information - on an aggregate level (never individually) - so that we can better understand our members' needs.

Tracking member preferences also helps us serve targeted advertising. Targeted ads are probably more interesting to you and are more productive for our advertisers. For example, if a shoe manufacturer wants to advertise a new model of running shoe, we can target the ad to registered members who are answering running related questions. Please note that we do not share your personal information with advertisers. We, or third-party ad servers acting on our behalf, act as the middlemen between you and the advertisers that want to reach you. Third party ad servers may use their own cookies. We do not have access to these cookies or any information they may contain.

If you register with our site, and sign up for a question, we will email you as part of our service. These emails may contain special offers and advertisements from our sponsors. In addition, from time-to-time, we may send separate emails that include informative messages about our services or third-party products that may be of interest to you. If you elect to receive such offers, you may update your profile at any time afterwards to discontinue such mailings.

Who does DailyDiary share information with?

Any information we collect from you is held securely and in the strictest confidence. We do not share your personal information without your explicit consent with anyone, except to the extent necessary to provide you with a requested service, or under circumstances required by law. We will disclose your personal information when we believe in good faith that any applicable law, regulation, or legal process requires it, or where we believe disclosure is necessary to protect or enforce our rights or the rights of another member. We also disclose aggregated member statistics in order to describe our services and audience to prospective partners, advertisers, and other third parties. However aggregate data is not traceable to you specifically.

What are my options to control the use of my personal information?

Most browsers can be configured to reject cookies or alert you when cookies are being sent. You may cancel your registration to DailyDiary and/or request the removal of your personal information from our member records from your account settings or by contacting us. We will send an email to confirm your request. After you respond, we will remove your information from our database. It is also possible to opt-out of these periodic informational emails by clicking the link provided in the email itself. We reserve the right to maintain information on registered members who have violated our Terms of Service or who have had their access to DailyDiary blocked in order to detect repeat offenders.

If you would like to change any of the information you provided when you registered, you may do so by going to your account settings page.
